Online safety resources geared toward adults
Many students who've taken this class are relatively new to the Internet and social media. I try to introduce suggestions during class, but there is so much more to consider!
"Digital citizenship" and Netiquette are general terms that refer to safe, responsible online use. Much of the material available is geared toward youth. I've scoured the Web for some age-appropriate information relevant for adults.
Why bother? Well, there's cyberstalking, identity theft, and other issues relevant to adults. The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has identified Nine Elements of Digital Citizenship: Access; Commerce; Communication; Literacy; Etiquette; Law; Rights and Responsibilities; Health/Wellness; and Security. (Thanks to instructors in my "Coaching Digital Learning" MOOC (North Carolina State University) for sharing these resources with me!)
Please take some time to scan these sites to learn more about online safety and numerous online strategies. (And if you encounter materials you believe may be useful for future learners, please send me the link!) Elise
